South African hip-hop artist Killy Keys is set to release his latest single, “Kyobasathwani,” on Friday, 25 September 2026, marking another step forward in the young artist’s growing musical journey.
Aphelele Patrick Somdaka, professionally known as Killy Keys, is a 17-year-old hip-hop artist from Cape Town whose musical journey began at an early age. Born in Mossel Bay on 29 January 2008 and raised in Cape Town, Killy Keys started rapping when he was just 10 years old.
What began as an early passion for rap has gradually developed into a hands-on approach to music. By the age of 14, Killy Keys had started learning how to mix and master his own songs, giving him the opportunity to develop not only as a rapper but also as a young artist involved in the creative and technical sides of his music.
From TikTok Recognition to His Debut EP
Killy Keys began attracting attention on TikTok after teasing his single “Nomahelele,” introducing his music to a wider online audience and helping establish his presence as an emerging artist.
He continued building his catalogue throughout 2025, closing out the year with his debut EP, “Killy Who?” The project featured collaborations with artists including Dollxr and other contributors, giving listeners a broader introduction to his sound and artistic direction.
His music is rooted in hip-hop, while his identity as an artist is connected to the XHOSAWAVE movement and the influences surrounding the new generation of South African artists creating and sharing music independently.

What’s Next for Killy Keys?
At 17, Killy Keys is still at the beginning of his journey, but his ambitions extend far beyond a single release. His goal is to build a significant career in the music industry and establish himself as an artist capable of reaching audiences both in South Africa and beyond.
With his experience growing from making music at a young age, learning the technical side of production and using platforms such as TikTok to introduce his music to new listeners, Killy Keys is continuing to develop his own path as an independent artist.
